The Hurricanes have reclaimed top spot on the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific after surviving a big scare against Moana Pasifika to win 32-24.

The Blues will knock the Hurricanes back to second if they win tonight against the Highlanders at Eden Park.

The Hurricanes almost paid the ultimate price for resting most of their team against Moana Pasifika with several All Blacks and key players not selected, such as Jordie Barrett, TJ Perenara, Ruben Love, Brayden Iose, Clark Laidlaw’s side were fortunate after a big scare in Wellington on Friday night.

They also failed to claim a bonus point in a victory that takes them top before the Blues host the Highlanders tonight.

For a Hurricanes outfit chasing top spot in the final weeks of the regular season, that could be crucial in the final equation for the Super Rugby Pacific play-offs.

However, the misfiring hosts did enough for the ugliest of wins.

The Hurricanes made 11 changes from last week’s starting line-up, when they lost 31-27 to the Blues in their top-of-the-table clash, and it showed.

In the other game played last night the Chiefs edged the Rebels 26-23
