Hunger strike at Naboro Max ends

All 27 prisoners at the Naboro Maximum Security Corrections Centre who had been on a hunger strike since last Wednesday have officially ceased their protest as of this morning.

The Fiji Corrections Service confirmed the development, saying the decision to end the week-long strike was led by two inmates identified as the ringleaders.

He says the pair ended their fast by eating breakfast this morning, which then encouraged the remaining six prisoners to do the same soon after.

The Corrections Service acknowledged the important role of the Vanua, church, and family members in supporting the holistic rehabilitation of inmates, saying that these partnerships are vital in helping prisoners transition successfully back into society.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe, secure, and humane environment for all offenders under its care.
