Five out of eight inmates have been given an opportunity to start a new chapter in their lives after receiving their official presidential pardons in Suva yesterday.
Aisake Qiolele, Josefa Tukana, Mohammed Harun Khan, Sailosi Rokotuiwalevu and Tang Lu received their pardons at the Fiji Corrections Service National Headquarters.
The pardons were formally presented by the Acting Commissioner of Corrections, together with the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Operations and the Southern and Central/Eastern Divisional Supervisors.
The officials reminded the recipients that their release marks a new beginning and encouraged them to carry forward the positive values, discipline and lifestyle developed during their time within the Corrections system.
They were also encouraged to remain committed to making better choices and avoid returning to the path that led to their incarceration.
The recipients were urged to maintain their faith in the Lord, remain steadfast in His word and use the opportunity to build lives marked by responsibility, purpose and positive change.
Eight inmates were granted presidential pardons.
The remaining three, Luke Dikevitukana, Mohammed Shaheen and Saula Rokobukai, will receive their pardons at Ba, Lautoka and Labasa Corrections Centres respectively.
