The Hotels and Guest Houses Amendment Bill 2021 which seeks to extend the period of hotel license from one year to not more than 5 years has been passed in parliament.

While contributing to the debate, SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka says this will help the operators but the quality of hotels should also be of utmost importance.

There was continuous interjections as Gavoka was explaining his point and the SODELPA Leader then asked the Speaker, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau if he could show a yellow card to some parliamentarians.

Another SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula says Fiji depends a lot on the hotel industry and it is important the standards are kept very high.

Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says all high standards will still be maintained as hotels have to comply with more requirements than what it was in 1973.
