The Hibiscus Festival contestants officially opened a $10,000 walkway for preschool students at Suvavou Village.
After starting their day with a visit to the Fiji Museum, the Queens proceeded to Suvavou Village for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the village kindergarten.
Despite the scorching heat, the contestants went barefoot and joined the villagers in a tree planting (sekoula) exercise around the school compound.
Miss Fire Authority of Fiji, Rhyelle Aisea, took the opportunity to speak with the children about fire safety.
She warned them about the dangers of playing with matches and emphasized that several recent house fires were directly caused by children mishandling them.
Aisea urged parents to educate their children on fire safety and to take responsibility for their children's actions.
The villagers hosted a small sevusevu ceremony to welcome the contestants before they proceeded to the official opening of the walkway.
The contestants are now preparing for Pasifika night tonight, and spirits are high as they look forward to tonight’s festivities.
