Fiji Weightlifting coach Henry Elder has made a call to the Ministry of Sports to help support the development of the sport in Fiji in terms of its financing.

While speaking to fijivillage Sports, Elder emphasised the challenges that the organisation faces over the years and the vision he has for the sport to explore possibilities of opening up facilities in other training areas to other youths and the management of the athletes and programs.

Elder says the government has supported international competitions for Fiji Weightlifting Federation and other sports federations, but not equally for the development of each individual sports federation.

He says despite these financial setbacks, the athletes are continuing with their training and preparation for upcoming competitions this year.

Elder has also revealed that winning the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in India can automatically qualify them for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year.
