Following concerns raised by residents of Ovalau and Kadavu regarding the Levuka and Vunisea hospital mortuaries not being operational for months, Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says they are sourcing funds to fix the Levuka Hospital mortuary while no confirmation has been given for Kadavu.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, Dr. Fong says their asset team has identified issues with the two mortuaries.

Dr. Fong says the Ovalau mortuary has four trays of which two are non-functional.

He says they have now finalized the scope of work and are sourcing funds to address the issue.

Dr. Fong says the Kadavu mortuary is not operational due to some technical issues.

The Permanent Secretary adds he does not have the schedule for the technical team and will not be able to confirm when exactly it will be solved.

Dr. Fong is yet to respond to questions about what is available for Kadavu residents in the interim as they have to bury their loved ones on the same day.
