The Ministry for Health received six new ambulances from the Japanese Government, which have been distributed to six sub-divisions to ensure a consistent and fully operational ambulance fleet.
While speaking at the handover, Minister for Health Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu told the drivers that the ambulance they drive is more than just a vehicle.
He says it is a mobile emergency room, and their responsibility goes beyond transportation as they are the first point of care.
Dr Lalabalavu urges the drivers to take pride in their role and ensure that these ambulances are operated safely and responsibly and are maintained to the highest standards.
The Minister also reminded the Sub-divisional medical officers that they are ultimately accountable for the proper use and upkeep of these assets within their division.
He says to establish a routine for regular maintenance, timely servicing, and oversight of usage and safety.
Dr Lalabalavu urges the SDMOs to ensure that these vehicles remain in full operational condition for as long as possible.
He adds that they should commit to ensuring that these new ambulances will not only be well used but also maintained and serviced well.
The Minister stressed that this ambulance should serve as a life-saving bridges between our communities and our hospitals.
