The Suva City Council Property Officer, Sireli Naikelekelevesi has confirmed that a group of more than 10 people will have to pay a fee of a $115 dollars if they want to use the My Suva Park in Muanikau for any organised activity.

Naikelekelevesi’s comment comes after a family was told by a security officer to pay $60 for using the My Suva Park last Saturday.

Naikelekelevesi said a family which had more than 10 members were told to pay $60 because they were there to celebrate someone’s birthday.

A family member has responded by saying that they were not there to celebrate someone’s birthday but they just took their children to the park.

Naikelekelevesi said the $115 fee will only apply to a group of 10 people if they have plans to carry out organised activities such as birthdays, weddings, family reunions and even an occasional BBQ or Lovo.

He said that this does not apply to people who use the park for recreation or an occasional walk.

He said that the $115 fee apply’s to all the parks which fall under the jurisdiction of the Suva City Council.

Naikelekelevesi added that the fee is negotiable as the Suva City Council will also in certain cases ensure that people deserve the charging rates they get.

He also stressed that the Suva City Council is charging people these rates so that they will be able to use the revenue they get to maintain the facilities and pay the security officers who monitor the park.
