A shot from last years Ultimate Bus Ride

The spirit of nostalgia is alive this week as Suva Grammar School’s 90s ex-students gear up for their 65th Sapphire Anniversary Celebration, with the much-anticipated Ultimate Bus Ride 2.0 taking place tonight.

Organiser Dorothy Blakelock, a proud 90s ex-scholar, says this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than last year’s.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Blakelock says more than 200 tickets have already been sold and she remains optimistic that many more will be purchased at the door at O’Reilly’s Bar.

She says planning and communicating with ex-scholars, including those overseas, was easy because once the information is out, the Grammar family always finds its way to the event.

While the team had initially hoped to host a cruise, Blakelock explained that plans had to be cancelled as they could not find a yacht large enough to fit more than 40 people.

She says ex-scholars are particularly excited about this year’s celebration, especially those who missed out last year.

She says the bus ride and O’Reilly’s nightclub hold special meaning as they reflect what students used to do in the 90s, when entertainment options were limited. Blakelock says she looks forward to reconnecting with classmates she has not seen since high school and hopes the celebrations serve as a lesson to current students.

She says whether they win or lose on the field or on the court, Grammarians will always celebrate, and find a reason to come together.

Meanwhile, a week of celebrations is planned with different decades, ending with the 65th Anniversary Grand Ball at the Vodafone Arena on Saturday.
