Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has revealed that the Government will be disbursing another round of the $50 cash assistance for people in the informal sector.

Applications for the assistance will open at 9am on 30th June and will close on 2nd July at 5pm.

The cash will be disbursed as early as 7th July and you can dial *161# and fill out the details to apply for the assistance

Sayed-Khaiyum says given the fact that the $220 FNPF/Government Unemployment Benefit Scheme and the reduced hours benefit is to end in July because the financial year is ending, people whose benefits will stop can also apply for this assistance.

He says the new budget will take care of any other unemployment benefits that they will announce as a policy.

The Government had paid out around $11.2 million to over 224,000 Fijians as part of its $50 cash assistance program for the informal sector earlier this month.

Sayed-Khaiyum has also revealed that one individual who had applied for this assistance last time around had $10,000 in his M-Paisa account.

The Attorney General has also revealed that the Government has outsourced 17 private doctors to provide free medical services in the community after expressions of interest were called.

The 17 private doctors are from different parts of the country.

He says Government has set aside $5 million for this initiative.

Sayed-Khaiyum says this is for people who usually go to a health centre or a public hospital because they cannot afford to pay for the cost of a private hospital.

He says people who were already clients of these General Practitioners are not eligible for this.
