The government has invested over a million dollars into the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service to strengthen the capacity of civil servants, ensuring continuous skill development.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says today's opening of this magnificent institute with its facilities, is a physical demonstration of government commitment, capacity building for over 35,000 public servants across four divisions. Rabuka says the civil service is responsible for implementing and enforcing government's national development aspirations. He says this facility is to ensure that the Fijian public sector has a skilled and experienced workforce that is needed to build a stronger future for Fiji.
The Prime Minister says this is an institute that is dedicated to delivering tailor-made, high-quality, work-relevant learning programs to support the development aspirations of the government of today and the future.
He says it will also assist in filling skills gaps in the civil service by upskilling and reskilling our civil servants.
Rabuka says this institute will also be a center of excellence for sharing best practices in modern diplomacy through the provision of high-quality, specialized courses for Fijian foreign service officers.
He says there are three dedicated training rooms, each having a seating capacity of 100 persons.
The Prime Minister says the rooms are named the Vuvale Talanoa House, the Ocean of Peace Building, and the William Crookshank Building.
He says the Vuvale Talanoa House represents continuous regional collaboration to strengthen our public sector workforce and strengthen ties between Fiji and our Pacific neighbors.
Rabuka says the Ocean of Peace Building stands as a reminder that at a time of geostrategic tensions, economic uncertainty, and a changing climatic environment, they, the custodians of the world's largest oceans, must promote the Pacific to be the Ocean of Peace.
He also thanked the Australian government who has already provided the furniture, audio, visual, and learning aid to equip the Vuvale Talanoa House.
While addressing the civil servants present, Rabuka says this institute will provide them with the platform to effectively develop their competencies and progress through the service at high performance.
He adds in doing so, it is his earnest hope that they will embrace civil service values, and ultimately ensure that the citizens of Fiji, or Fijians, and the citizens of the Pacific, get better civil service delivery through this institution.
