The government is ensuring that the National Development Plan 2025–2029 does not simply sit on a shelf and gather dust by the end of their term, and stresses that implementation is key to achieving development and turning strategies into real outcomes.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad highlighted this during the launch of the National Development Plan 2025–2029 Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Workshop.
Professor Prasad says the focus should be on how policies can be translated into action by identifying which projects can be implemented quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively to improve the daily lives of people.
He says the government has brought about a transformative shift in how implementation is handled, ensuring that the plan does not simply sit on a shelf and gather dust by the end of their term, but instead becomes a living document embedded in every ministry and agency and something that will endure beyond political terms.
Professor Prasad adds that he hopes this workshop will provide an important platform for discussions on the development of metadata for key performance indicators under the NDP, as these indicators represent the nation’s final output goals.
The workshop is currently underway at Suvavou House and will conclude tomorrow.
