Government grateful to People's Republic of China’s help in tackling COVID-19 – Dr. Lalabalavu

The Government of Fiji is grateful for the support and assistance provided by the Government of the People's Republic of China towards Fiji and the region that helped us in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu on behalf of the Fiji government highlighted this while receiving US$250,000 from the People's Republic of China, under the China - Pacific Island Countries (PICs) Anti-COVID 19 Cooperation Fund.

Dr. Lalabalavu says this donation of funds which was received during the COVID years is another representation of China's ongoing commitment towards the health of the people of Fiji.

He acknowledges the timely intervention and support, and hopes that the partnership will continue into the future as we tackle current and new public health threats that will come our way.

The Minister says the funding is being used to support in strengthening our health services during and post COVID, and will contribute to the improvement of health care for Fijians towards the Ministry's vision of having a healthy population.

He further says Fiji is now on the road to social, health and economic recovery after COVID-19, and we acknowledge China’s generous support, for without it, we would not be travelling this recovery path.
