Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says members of Parliament should be honest when speaking in Parliament after claims made by the Leader of SODELPA Viliame Gavoka that he was given the run-around when trying to secure a construction permit to build some apartments in Suva.

While speaking on the debate on the Investment Fiji Bill 2022, Gavoka says they know that the ease of doing business is lacking in this country.

He says as the Chairman of the Nadroga/Navosa Corporation, they wanted to build some apartments in Suva but he was given the run-around to secure a construction permit.

Gavoka then told the parliament that every person he met were holding acting positions no one gave him a decision on whether he could proceed with the construction of the building.

He adds this is frustrating and the simple solution is to change the leadership in government.

In his right of reply, Sayed-Khaiyum read a letter from the Director of Town and Country Planning, highlighting that assistance was provided to Gavoka.

He says the team from the Town and Country Planning have met with the Leader of SODELPA and have resolved the issue.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the beauty of Investment Fiji is that it will also be assisting local investors.

The Investment Fiji Bill 2022 has been passed in Parliament.
