Good news for families who want to conveniently perform the final rites of their loved ones as plans are underway to have gas crematoriums in major districts across Fiji.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Minister for Sugar Industry and Multi-Ethnic Affairs Charan Jeath Singh says they have ordered four gas crematorium chambers which will be arriving in the next two months.

He says out of the four, one each is going to be installed in Labasa, in Lovu Cemetery in Lautoka, in Wailoaloa, Nadi and another in Ba Cemetery.

Singh says another two are coming in later this year or early next year which will be installed in Sigatoka and Savusavu.

The Minister also says their major focus was to hand out grants to small projects and communities where they have already distributed about $1.5 million worth of grants.

He further says that in terms of social cohesion, they are encouraging minority communities to apply for grants for which they have been allocated about $1.5 million.

Singh also says they are digitizing records of the Girtmitiyas while there are also plans for a Girmit museum in Lautoka.

He says the government has allocated some money for the museum to be constructed behind the current Girmit Centre in Lautoka while the Chief Minister for Indian State of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has also committed to assist in the construction.

The 2024-2025 National Budget will be announced on the 27th of this month.
