People in Levuka can expect better services after the Levuka Town Council received a 9 tonne tipper truck and a 5.7 tonne excavator for garbage collection and solid waste management.

While receiving the machinery, Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says the donation by the Japanese government will help garbage collection in Levuka as they will no longer need to depend on machinery from the main land.

Kumar says the handover of the machinery to Levuka Town Council by the government of Japan symbolises genuine commitment and to improve basic needs at the community level.

She says such development projects will go a long way to benefit Fijians in Levuka.

Kumar adds she understands the demands by ratepayers to deliver was a concern for the municipality.
