An ice block business that started in 1989 on a small scale in Varadoli, Ba by the late Ram Surat also known as Gabbe and Gabbys is finally reaching its full potential as the demand for this famous ice block from Ba is growing around the country.

Known as Gabbys Ice Block, the company is now managed by Surat’s family members including his grand-daughter, Roma Prakash.

Prakash says the ice blocks sold at her late grandfather’s small shop, famously known as Gabbys shop picked up its fame among Ba people in the 90s which encouraged them to reach other towns.

She says Gabbys Ice Block is now packaged and available in most parts of Viti Levu and they will soon be taking their product into major supermarkets and Vanua Levu.

Prakash who looks after the Sales Division says they are also employing staff at their factory in Varadoli.

The prices of Gabbys ice blocks range between 70 cents to $1.20.
