Frespac Ginger Fiji Limited opened its refurbished factory in Wailada, Lami today after investing over $300,000 in getting brand new production floors and also upgrading staff amenities.

CEO, Andrew Bond says they have 142 staff at the factory which includes more than 80 women who cut ginger.

Frespac Ginger Fiji Limited which is an Australian owned company has been exporting processed ginger to the European countries, Australia and New Zealand.

Bond says they are now also looking at other unique ginger products that would be made and marketed purely as Fijian ginger.

The company buys fresh ginger from farmers around Suva and pays them between 95 cents to $1 for a kilogram of ginger.

The company exports around 800 tonnes of processed ginger every year valued at around $6 million dollars.

Assistant Minister for Agriculture Viam Pillay officiated at the opening of the refurbished factory.
