People in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu will soon benefit from free mobile eye screenings thanks to Island Medical Centre.

Island Medical Centre Managing Director Azad Ali says the initiative follows a strong turnout during the first three days of screenings, with hundreds attending the medical centre on Extension Street in Suva from across Viti Levu, and adds that the screenings will continue throughout this month.

Ali says many who came had undiagnosed issues, including retinopathy in diabetics and cataracts in the elderly where around 80 percent of those screened need further treatment.

He urges people to get their eyes checked because vision is just as important as any other part of the body, and adds that referrals will be made for those needing specialist care.

Ali says considering that people from all over Viti Levu have come for the free eye screenings in the first three days, he has decided to embark on a free mobile eye screening in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu very soon.

He adds preparations for this are underway and further details about the time and venue would be announced in due course.

Ali also confirms that preparations for a new mini-private hospital are progressing.
