The South Pacific Stock Exchange is offering a free online workshop that will connect participants directly with the global experts who developed the new international sustainability standards, helping local companies and institutions prepare for a new era of corporate transparency and accountability.

SPX CEO Sheraj Obeyesekere says business owners, accountants, and sustainability professionals are expected to gain vital skills in sustainability reporting through the initiative.

He further says that with sustainability reporting becoming a global requirement, the training aims to empower professionals across Fiji’s finance, governance, and business sectors to navigate the evolving landscape.

He says the initiative is especially significant as it supports Fijian companies in aligning with international disclosure practices, enhancing investor confidence, and contributing to climate-resilient, transparent economic growth.

The workshop, set for October 7th, will cover IFRS S1 and S2 — the new global sustainability disclosure standards.

Participants will also take part in interactive sessions and a live Q&A with the standard developers.

The Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants has deferred adoption of IFRS S1 and S2 to January 1st, 2026.

Obeyesekere says the training will give Fijian professionals a head start in applying the standards before the deadline.

He adds that the workshop reflects SPX’s commitment to building technical capacity and strengthening Fiji’s capital markets.
