A former revenue collector with the Ministry of Justice has been sentenced to 1 year 6 months imprisonment in the Savusavu Magistrates Court.

Tomasi Raikivi was charged by FICAC and he pleaded guilty to one count of general dishonesty – obtaining a gain.

Raikivi admitted to using receipts, revenue collectors cash analysis sheet and bank lodgement with false material to obtain $1,402.95 between June 2015 and September 2017.

While sentencing Raikivi, Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci said the man systematically drained money from the Ministry of Justice for his personal gain when he was entrusted by the Ministry and the public to uphold the values of high ethical standard, professionalism and courtesy.

He said there was a gross breach of trust as Raikivi was a revenue collector who stole a substantial amount of money.

The Magistrate also highlighted that there was no form of restitution from the man and emphasized that the court denounced this offence.
