Former Police Director CID Luke Rawalai appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court charged with three counts of abuse of office and two counts of receiving a bribe.
It is alleged that Rawalai between 1st December 2012 and 31st January 2014 received a benefit of $5,723 for himself with the intention that his duties as a public official will be influenced.
The court was told that between 3rd January 2012 and 5th December 2013, Rawalai allegedly received a benefit of $2,400 for himself with the intention that his duties as a public official will be influenced.
It is alleged that Rawalai between 17th June 2011 and 14th March 2014 did arbitrary acts for the purpose of gain namely interfered with the Police Investigation into an allegation of rape.
Rawalai is also alleged to have done an arbitrary act for the purpose of gain namely directed the Nadi Police Station Criminal Investigation Division Personnel to lay charge without any evidence and against the findings of the Nadi Police Station Criminal Investigation Division Personnel.
It is also alleged that Rawalai between 1st December 2012 and 31st January 2014 did arbitrary acts for the purpose of gain namely interfered with the Police Investigation conducted into an allegation of forgery.
This matter was initially investigated by the Fiji Police Force and this year, the matter was referred to FICAC by the DPP and the Fiji Police Force.
FICAC lawyer Sam Savumiramira did not object to bail and Rawalai has been released on bail.
The former Senior Police Officer has been told not to move from his current address which is in Rifle Range in Lautoka and also to report to Lautoka Police Station once a month.
The matter has been adjourned to the 21st of this month.
