Attorney General Siromi Turaga

Attorney General Siromi Turaga is calling on operators of clubs, taverns and bars to strictly observe the law in accordance with the terms of the liquor licenses issued.

He says the message is clear that no alcohol should be sold over the counter beyond 1am and nightclubs should close at 1am.

Turaga says the security officers should be advised of their responsibilities to patrons and ensure that no person under the age of 18 is permitted to enter the nightclubs.

He adds that valid identity cards should be strictly checked for the validation process.

The AG is warning operators if found to be flagrantly breaching the law they will be taken to task, including cancelling of license in a worst-case scenario.

Turaga is inviting nightclubs, bars, taverns operators and liquor shops to partner with the government in combating the abuse of alcohol in the community, as part of our social and moral responsibilities to building a new Fiji.
