Folau to join Otere Black at Japanese Top League club

Former Wallabies fullback Israel Folau is set to join Māori All Black flyhalf Otere Black and Kiwi coach Rob Penney at the NTT Communications Shining Arcs Rugby Club.

Former Wallabies fullback Israel Folau is set to join Māori All Black flyhalf Otere Black and Kiwi coach Rob Penney at the NTT Communications Shining Arcs Rugby Club in the Japans Top League competition.

The Club have named Folau and Black among their new signings and confirmed Penney is returning to coach the side.

Folau who has not played rugby union since being sacked in 2019 by Rugby Australia following a series of homophobic social media messages was released by his English Super League club Catalans Dragons last week.

Black played his last game for the Blues in the Super Rugby Trans Tasman grand final win over the Highlanders.

The 25-year-old also starred for the Māori All Blacks in their two-test series win over Samoa.

Rob Penney returns to the Shining Arcs who he coached from 2014 to 2018.
