With Fiji's flu season typically beginning in January and ending by May or June, the Health Ministry is urging parents to take the necessary precautions and go immediately to a doctor or health centre if they suspect that their child is dehydrated.

In a public advisory, the Health Ministry says dehydration can be very serious in babies especially if they are under 3 months old.

The Health Ministry says fevers can result in dehydration.

They are urging parents to keep their children hydrated to reduce cold and flu symptoms and help them feel better.

Signs of dehydration include no tears when crying, dry lips, decreased activity and urinating less than three to four times in 24 hours.

You should wash all surfaces your child came into contact with before and during their sickness.

Please wash your hands regularly and tell your child not to share food, drinks or utensils when they eat.
