Fiji Airways has confirmed that flight FJ450 from Christchurch to Nadi experienced a bird strike shortly after take-off this morning.
The airline says the aircraft is holding safely in the air to burn fuel and reach the required landing weight before returning to land.
Fiji Airways has assured that all guests and crew are safe on board.
They add that their flight and engineering teams are closely monitoring the situation and the aircraft will land as soon as it is safe to do so.
The airline says it is assisting all affected passengers and will provide further updates as they become available.
