Authorities warn of consequences for ignoring government directives

The National Disaster Risk Management Office has warned that people who ignore government directives and continue to break the rules will face consequences after they received reports of people gathering at Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi for leisure activities today, despite the ongoing suspension of recreational activities.

The NDRMO stresses that all outdoor sports and recreational activities remain suspended until the weather conditions improve.

According to the NDRMO, the advisory has been issued as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu continues to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hazardous conditions across the country.

The Nadi Weather Office also warns that current conditions could lead to slippery and unsafe surfaces, poor visibility, a higher risk of lightning strikes, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
