A flash flood alert is now in force for the Eastern half of Viti Levu from Serua to Namosi through Navua to Suva and Nausori to Tailevu, Naitasiri and Ra and the Northern Division.
The Nadi Weather Office says a heavy rain alert remains in force for the eastern half of Viti Levu from Serua to Namosi through Navua to Suva and Nausori to Tailevu, Naitasiri and Ra, the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
They say a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain is expected to affect the eastern and northern parts of the country from today.
The Weather Office says an easterly wind flow also prevails over the group.
Possible impacts include flash flooding of flood-prone, low-lying informal settlements/communities, businesses and Irish Crossing leading to traffic disruptions.
It could also result in surface flooding on streets in urban areas with poor drainage, wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavy downpours, increasing the risk of road accidents.
