Five villages in the district of Yale and Vunisea Government Station are currently on lockdown due to the emergence of COVID-19 cases in Kadavu this week.

This has been confirmed by the Roko Tui Kadavu Kitione Raibevu.

Raibevu says Kadavu is now facing the challenges of eradicating the virus from the island as it was brought in by a few who made some wrong decisions.

He says the Kadavu Provincial Council is working closely with the team from the Health Ministry to create awareness in the 75 villages and 15 settlements in Kadavu.

The Roko Tui adds unnecessary movement of villagers from one village to another should cease as this can add to the spread of the virus.

According to the Ministry of Health, 46 cases are recorded from Kadavu with 45 of these new cases from Rakiraki village in Yale while one case is from Naioti Village.

All of these cases have been isolated.
