The people of Mataqali Nacokula, Yavusa Rarawaqa in Vaturu have a reason to celebrate as the coalition government has presented its first royalty payment of $150,605 to the Marama ni Mataqali, Kelera Matalau.

The royalty payment was presented by the Minister for Lands, Filimoni Vosarogo.

While speaking during the handing-over ceremony, Vosarogo highlighted that this achievement is a successful partnership between the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, Lion One Limited, and the committed landowners.

He says it exemplifies their dedication to ensuring that the wealth generated from natural resources benefits our communities and contributes to a prosperous future.

The Minister also expressed gratitude to Lion One Limited and the Mineral Resources Department for their roles in this success.

He adds the initial consent from the Mataqali for the extraction of gold and silver showcases their collective responsibility and adherence to our legal framework, paving the way for further opportunities for all Fijians.

Vosarogo says this ceremony reminds us of the power of collaboration and a shared vision for sustainable development, and together, we will harness our natural resources for the greater good of our nation.
