Operations at the Rarawai Mill in Ba have come to a standstill after a major fire broke out in the powerhouse, causing extensive damage to parts of the mill.
The Fiji Sugar Corporation has confirmed that, while the damage is significant, all employees are safe and no injuries have been reported.
The incident has triggered a full-scale investigation led by the National Fire Authority and Energy Fiji Limited, who are working to determine the cause of the blaze and assess the full extent of the damage.
FSC says all operations at the Rarawai Mill remain suspended until further notice.
It adds that all lorry drivers, whether on their way to the mill or already there, have been redirected to the Lautoka Mill.
Lorries operating within the sector will also be directed to go straight to Lautoka to ensure a steady cane supply and reduce disruption for farmers and other stakeholders.
FSC says a detailed report will be released following the completion of the investigation and damage assessments.
