Dr James Fong who has recently served as the General Manager for the country's COVID-19 Incident Management Team, has been appointed as the new acting Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, effective immediately.
PSC Chairman, Vishnu Mohan says over his more than three decades of service as a medical expert, Dr Fong most visibly worked as Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit CWM Hospital.
Mohan says he has also officially accepted the retirement of Bernadette Welch, Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services.
He says after serving four years in various roles across the Fijian civil service, Welch will be returning home to her family in Australia.
Mohan thanked Welch for the many valuable contributions she has made to Fiji over the years, and wishes her a long and healthy retirement.
