He says it is a milestone for technology and more so it is a giant leap forward for Fiji in their shared aspirations for a more connected and prosperous future.

He says the facility will hold a new cable landing station and will house its vital infrastructure including state-of-the-art data transmission services as well as power-generated equipment to support international fiber optic cables that Google will lay into Fiji.

Rabuka says the infrastructure will further project Fiji as a hub for digital connectivity within the Pacific and the world.

He says the ICT facility will also house the second landing facility in Viti Levu and one that will strengthen internet connectivity and make it more resilient with two landing stations - one in the Central Division and one in the Western Division.

Rabuka says it is more than just a connection with connectivity but a connection with the people of Fiji and its progress.

He stresses developing resilience in infrastructure is critical to development of advancement and the Fijian Government has prioritized supporting such initiatives that will contribute greatly to Fiji’s development into a digital economy.

Rabuka says this visionary project to lay a submarine cable across the South Pacific, is part of their plan to increase connectivity in the Pacific and the world.

He says the vision of the project is aligned perfectly with Fiji’s government vision of fostering economic growth, strengthening Fiji's infrastructure and enhancing opportunities for all Fijians with a vision that works towards empowering the people of Fiji.
