Fiji is not alright at all as many youth are drowning in debt through TELS - Waqavonovono

Former youth president for SODELPA, Peter Waqavonovono

Fijians are afraid to admit that Fiji is not alright, as many youth are drowning in debt through TELS.

Former youth president for SODELPA, Peter Waqavonovono highlighted this message while addressing their supporters in their party rally held at Syria Park.

He says it's a slap in the faces of the youth after school leavers were made to sign loan agreements and commit to repaying TELS loans.

Waqavonovono says our market is filled with qualified youth but are without jobs and this shows that our nation is not alright.

He says the FijiFirst Government spent $10 million a year on a golf tournament and paid millions to public relations companies just to make themselves look better, but cannot use the same money to make tertiary education free for every Fijian and create jobs for every graduate student in Fiji.

Waqavonovono adds that he had personally met with families just like many of those with nothing in their cupboards and has spoken to tertiary students who only have a packet of fried bean as their meal at school.

He says this is what SODELPA is standing for in the coming elections, and that is to forgive the TELS loans and make tertiary education free with no bonds needed.
