Fiji Sports Commission Chairman Peter Mazey

The Fiji Sports Commission has confirmed that major American sporting organisations are approaching them to host competitions in Fiji.

Commission Chairman Peter Mazey says they are working together with government and sporting promoters and cannot release the names of these organizations.

He says these major sports have a lot of obligations with their media partners and when they cannot play, it becomes an issue as millions of dollars are invested.

Mazey says these organisations want to come to Fiji, hold the competition and they will not take part in any other activities.

He says the Ministry of Health will have to establish protocols for overseas sports competition to be held in the country.

The Chairman adds they are looking at recreation and sports to bring tourists into the country.

He hopes this can open doors to market Fiji as a country that can safely host sports competitions during the pandemic.
