Integrity Fiji Executive Director, Joseph Veramu says Fiji has done relatively well in the Transparency International’s Global Corruption Barometer Pacific Report on Citizen’s Views and Experiences of Corruption however more needs to be done to address people’s perceptions on corruption.

Veramu says if you look at the data from perceptions, perhaps corruption could be seen as a big problem but if you look at it also in terms of the practice of corruption and experiences of corruption, the figures in Fiji are relatively low and to him it is a sign of the good work done by FICAC.

He says they can do more with the Government and other Civil Society Organisations to address the issue regarding people’s perceptions.

Veramu says the report also touches on people’s perceptions on limitations and restrictions, and this is mainly because of decisions made to control the COVID-19 pandemic.
