Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says in a year that has been defined by a deadly darkness – the COVID-19 pandemic – Fiji has been a shining light for humanity.

While giving his message for Diwali, Bainimarama says this Diwali, our people are safe and they are safe because Fijians summoned the light within them to sacrifice and to live in solidarity with their fellow Fijians and to co-operate for the common good.

He says our science-based approach to containing this deadly virus has seen the side of knowledge triumph once again.

The Prime Minister says it has been a noble undertaking for this nation, and we should be proud adding we truly looked out for each other—and that is the ultimate expression of light and goodness.

Bainimarama says as we celebrate Diwali let us be reminded that it is absolutely necessary for good to triumph over evil, for light to prevail over darkness, and for knowledge to seep away ignorance and prejudice because that is what all decent and successful societies are built on.

He adds Diwali calls on us to strengthen our bonds and reaffirm our commitment to family, friendship, goodwill and a brighter future for our country.
