BIG HIT: Fijian film maker Vilsoni Hereniko's new twist on Polynesian love story Sina ma Tinirau is proving a big hit with international audiences:(Supplied)

It's a tale as old as time, but Fijian film-maker Vilsoni Hereniko's new twist on a Polynesian love story is proving a big hit with international audiences.

His animated adaptation of Sina ma Tinirau is currently touring the international film festival circuit, and has claimed a string of awards.

The tale is one about forbidden love between an eel and a beautiful girl.
