Majority of the teachers have been raising their concerns to the Fiji Teachers Union regarding their pay not being up to par despite being told by the Ministry of Education to further their studies for quality education of our children.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary, Muniappa Goundar says they were told by the Ministry of Education the allocation for the graduate salary has not come in and also has not been approved by the Ministry of Finance.

Goundar says it is disappointing to know that, on one hand, teachers upgrade their qualifications at the request of the ministry to provide quality education to our children, while on the other hand, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education are unable to remunerate them accordingly.

The General Secretary is also requesting the Ministry of Education to look at ways for funds so these teachers are remunerated as soon as possible.

We have sent questions to the Ministry of Education and they are yet to respond.
