The future of Fiji’s only shelter for street dogs, The Greater Good Foundation, is in the hands of animal lovers.

Greater Good Foundation Spokesperson Mohammed Khan highlighted with the support of the community in 2022, the foundation fed and cared for over 200 homeless dogs and puppies daily.

Khan further says they caught and desexed 350 street dogs last year, helping to control Fiji's exploding street dog population.

He added they also intervened in scores of horrific animal cruelty and injury cases.

The foundation adds to keep going in 2023 the organisation needs ongoing support.

They have developed a new regular giving platform called Fiji Street Dog Hero and has launched a social media campaign and video to highlight what it calls a crisis situation in animal homelessness.

The foundation says they operate with no government support and their operation is a week-to-week struggle for survival.

They are inviting individuals and businesses to earn HERO status by pledging a monthly amount so they can continue their work on a sustainable basis.

The foundation says many people are sickened by the suffering they see and want to do something about it.

Khan adds the Fiji Street Dog Hero program is the chance to make a difference.

He says with this regular support, they can work together to reduce the suffering of dogs in Fiji.

Khan further says Fiji Street Dog Heroes share their commitment to ending the suffering, starvation, and homelessness of street dogs across Fiji.
