The Fiji Police Force as an organisation is not corrupt, it’s the actions of a few that has created that perception, and we need to work towards changing public perception through the conduct of good work.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew made this statement during the Division’s Medal award ceremony that was held at the Fiji Police Academy yesterday morning.

During the ceremony, Chew awarded the Fiji Police Medal, Fiji Police Long Service Medal and Fiji Police Overseas Service Medals to officers serving at the Police Headquarters, Criminal Investigations Department, Special Branch, Police Mobile Force, Fiji Police Academy, Fiji Police Forensics and Science Services, Operations, Traffic Unit, Building and Maintenance Unit, Bands and Waterpol.

He says they all need to work together to change the perception.

Chew says he has received messages praising their work, but these are a few compared to the most damaging examples they portray when an officer is charged and produced in court.

The Acting Commissioner says he takes the criticism with a good heart, knowing that police officers can change and he also encouraged the officers to continue the good work amidst the rapidly evolving criminal landscape.

Chew has urged the officers to treat every day as a blessing, an opportunity to do better for themselves, their families, and the people they serve.
