The Fiji Navy will receive a new state of the art navy vessel, RFNS Kacau, from the People’s Republic of China in the coming month.

Fijian Navy Commander Captain Humphrey Tawake, stated that RFNS Kacau is a Hydrographic Vessel that will help the Fiji Navy in  the measurement and description of the physical features of the coastal areas.

Tawake says that the vessel will also help with surveillance and maritime issues that the Fiji Navy is involved in.

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo stated that this partnership is a sign of mutual respect between the two countries and also stressed that the People’s Republic of China will never interfere with internal matters of Pacific island countries.

Tawake adds that they have not set a definite date on the arrival of the RFNS Kacau.

Meanwhile, 2 Naval Officers, Mid-seaman Samuela Logavatu and Esita Batiniqila today received scholarships to study in China for 4 years.

Logavatu says that he is very privileged to receive the scholarship to study marine engineering in China and hopes to return and help improve navy standards and to also work onboard the RFNS Kacau.
