The Fiji Navy is has produced its first ever digitally compiled nautical chart using the Caris software.
Leading Seaman James Morrell says with the new digitally produced F6 Exclusive Economic Zone chart, they will now be able to easily survey our borders.
Morrell says this is a reference chart which de-marks the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Fiji Waters and is not a navigational chart.
The Leading Seaman says the original F6 Chart was produced in 1981 which was in analog form and was boring because it was just black and white and consisted less data.
He says this will enable them to know what we own and what lies within our waters.
Morrell says there are only three navy officers that can produce this chart and he is one of them.
He says in the past it took 9 months to 1 year to produce a chart but this new software will enable them to shorten the time frame.
He says the chart covers a two hundred economic zone radius and identify nearby islands and vessel movements within our border.
