Hundreds of Muslims gathered today at the FMF Gymnasium to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.
While speaking at the event, Fiji Muslim League President Haji Basher Ahmed says the celebration emphasizes the importance of unity, peace, and shared values in Fiji.
Ahmed highlighted that it reflects on the Prophet’s teachings of love, justice, equality, and compassion, and showcases Islam’s commitment to moderation, tolerance, and service to others.
He says that the occasion also pays tribute to the founders of the Fiji Muslim League, established in 1926, and acknowledged the government’s recognition of this important event with a public holiday.
The President also raised key issues, including protecting places of worship, combating drug abuse through education and rehabilitation, and addressing violence against women by upholding the Prophet’s example of respect and dignity for women.
He says the overall message calls for unity across faiths, mutual respect, and a collective effort to build a caring, just, and prosperous nation.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua, Assistant Minister for Finance, Esrom Immanuel and Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa were also part of the celebration.
