In a bid to improve service delivery in the tourism sector in Fiji, the Fiji Higher Education Commission of Fiji conducted a talanoa session with various hotel providers, the service providers from USP, FNU, and other stakeholders.

Fiji Higher Education Commission Chief Executive Officer Doctor Rohit Kishore says they are trying to identify the mismatch in skills, labor shortages in the market, up skilling, soft skills and the employer's attitude towards work.

He says this is the beginning of more discussions to come.

Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation Senior Tourism Officer Miriama Ryland says this talanoa session was a great opportunity to discuss with people in the academic space to identify the challenges they face.

Ryland says the main issue is the skills gap in the industry.

She says the tourism industry is facing other issues it needs to curb.

Ryland says she looks forward to more collaboration with these stakeholders in the future to improve the Fijian tourism industry.
