The Fiji Head Teachers Association says it strongly supports the Ministry of Education’s decision of abolishing examinations in Years 1, 2 and 3.

While applauding the call made by the Minister for Education, Premila Kumar, Association’s President Ana Vecenayawa says this was long overdue.

Vecenayawa says she strongly believes this would become the game changer for the education system and its future.

She says this issue was the centre of discussion in many of their national conferences and meetings, and head teachers have been stressing on the importance of literacy and numeracy at the early stage of primary education.

Vecenayawa adds the basic literacy and numeracy skills needs to be well grasped by the children for them to do well in later stages and also in other subject areas.

She further added that the removal of thematic teaching and introduction of civic and moral values will inculcate everlasting good virtues in the young minds who will later take the nation to the desired achievement level.
