Fijian Ross McDonald has been honoured by the United Grand Lodge of England with the prestigious Grand Master’s award, the Order of Service to Masonry, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the organisation over many years.

The Lodge says McDonald has been a member of the Lodge of Fiji since 1973, has served as Master of both the Lodge of Fiji in Suva and the Lodge of Discovery in Port Vila.

He retired on 31 December 2023 from his role as Grand inspector of the South West Pacific Group of Lodges that includes Fiji and Vanuatu.

They say the Grand Master’s Award was inaugurated in 1945, and is limited to only 12 recipients worldwide at any given time, with just 82 awards granted since its establishment.

The Lodge says it stands as the highest honour awarded to Freemasons by the United Grand Lodge of England.

McDonald traveled to London in September last year to receive the award during a ceremony at the Grand Lodge of England, attended by approximately 1,750 Freemasons.
