Fiji Football President Rajesh Patel says the Digicel National Football team’s Melbourne Tour has been cancelled.

Patel says ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 preliminary competition the team was scheduled to travel to Melbourne for its final phase of preparations and friendly games, as announced earlier.

Patel further says this decision was made after taking into consideration the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and the high risk of transmission as any player or management testing positive would have a huge impact on the entire team.

He adds, however, the team will be leaving for Qatar earlier in March and play friendly matches in Doha before the qualifiers.

All players in the national team will be allowed to play for their respective districts in the first two rounds of the Digicel Premier League before the final squad will march into camp on Monday, February 21, at Fiji FA Academy in Ba.
