People in Taveuni will be able to get free medical check ups this Saturday as the Fiji Cancer Society will be provide cancer education and screening programs at the Waiyevo Hospital in collaboration with their stakeholders.

They will provide services such as breast examination, pap smear test, NCD checkup, skin clinic and awareness.

The Society says World Cancer Day is this Saturday and their theme for this year is “Close the Gap” and they hope to achieve this by encouraging every Fijian to be champions for good health by having regular checkups, talking about their health, eating the right food and educating the public on symptoms they need to be aware of.

They say they decided to carry out a screening in Taveuni as it is their aim to reach the unreachable community every year and this year through the funding from the Women’s Fund Fiji they are able to reach communities in Taveuni

They further say that since 2018, they have registered 1,530 patients while 470 cancer patients were registered last year compared to 385 in 2021.
